Origins Africa Yoga Retreat

Tanzania

Origins Africa Yoga Retreat is a sanctuary for those seeking a deeper connection to self, community, and the earth. Whether you're a wellness facilitator looking to host a retreat, or a traveler in search of rest and reconnection, this unique destination invites you to slow down and return to what matters.

Set near the sacred Gangilonga Rock in Tanzania’s southern highlands, Origins Africa Yoga Retreat offers a tranquil and inspiring space for rest, reflection, and renewal. This intimate eco-retreat blends natural beauty, cultural richness, and holistic wellness, creating the perfect setting for yoga retreats, personal getaways, or small group immersions.

The retreat is anchored by a beautifully designed lodge that features comfortable en-suite rooms, a central open-air yoga shala, and communal spaces that encourage connection and contemplation. Built with sustainability in mind, the lodge uses local materials, solar power, and water-saving systems, while the surrounding gardens supply fresh produce for the retreat’s wholesome, plant-based meals.

Daily yoga and meditation sessions are complemented by optional healing therapies and guided nature walks. Guests can also engage in meaningful cultural experiences with the local Hehe community through storytelling, music, and traditional ceremonies. The setting—surrounded by ancient rock formations and panoramic views of the Iringa landscape—offers a profound sense of grounding and peace.

  • With capacity for 24 guests, the 4-acre property boasts 6 en-suite private retreat chalets (holding up to 12 guests), 2 expansive shared retreat rooms (holding 4 guests each) and the exclusive founder's lodge which is a self-contained cottage boasting 2 further en-suite bedrooms. The retreat is brought to life by the warm, friendly, and dedicated staff whilst the menu of adventures lets you fully customise your itinerary, from ancient wellness practices to safari experiences. All you need to do is bring your vision, your clients and your magic for the team to co-create the retreat of a lifetime.

All food and drink is included in the price of your stay, with alcoholic beverages charged separately. Private chef, Diana, will craft a bespoke menu to suit your group's dietary requirements. Curious guests are invited to accompany her to the local market to select fresh produce and learn how to cook traditional Tanzanian dishes. Come together in the communal dining area to enjoy nourishing meals, then enjoy the evening on sofas beside a roaring fire in the cosy lounge bar.

  • Tribal Wellness Experience

This is is something truly unique. Travel by 4×4 to visit a remote tribal community and meet a traditional medicine man still practising much as his ancestors have for thousands of years.

With one of the Retreat Hosts as your translator and guide, you’ll explore a world of herbal remedies, forest-dwelling spirits and ancient psychology as relevant today as it’s ever been. You’ll mingle with the village community to discover a very different way of life and approach to wellness.

Being extremely conscious of ethical responsibilities in traditional communities, this experience is made possible through personal relationships developed over many years and a fair arrangement with the healer and his village through which everyone benefits.

    Safari

Coming to Africa and not doing a Safari seems almost rude! Especially when a day in the vast wilderness of Ruaha National Park is so easily accessible from the lodge. Spot elephants, lions, hippos, giraffes and so much more from an open-top safari Landcruiser driven by one of the expert guides.

    Iringa Town Tour

Even closer by, the town’s lively markets and craft stalls are an easy walk from the lodge, and Retreat Hosts are always happy to tag along if you want a guide.
