Footsteps Eco-Lodge
The Gambia
Nestled in the serene village of Gunjur, Footsteps Eco-Lodge offers a tranquil retreat that harmonizes with nature. Just a short walk from golden sandy beaches and adjacent to the protected Kunyoong Forest Park, this eco-lodge provides a unique blend of bush and beach experiences.
The lodge features nine spacious, detached roundhouses with domed roofs, designed to stay cool and blend seamlessly into the natural surroundings. Each unit is surrounded by lush gardens, offering privacy and a peaceful ambiance. Guests can enjoy a refreshing dip in the freshwater eco-pool, relax on the raised sun deck, or participate in various activities such as yoga sessions, bird watching, and cultural workshops.
Sustainability is at the heart of Footsteps Eco-Lodge. The lodge operates entirely on solar power, ensuring an eco-friendly stay. Local craftspeople are invited to showcase their work, providing guests with authentic cultural experiences. The on-site restaurant serves a variety of dishes, including vegetarian and African options, often featuring ingredients sourced from the lodge's own gardens.
At Wellness Travel Africa, we believe where you stay is as important as where you go. Our carefully curated accommodations invite you to slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience the true spirit of The Gambia. Whether you choose a traditional roundhouse, a charming chalet, or a spacious self-catering villa, you’ll find comfort, authenticity, and a sense of belonging woven into every detail.

Stay in Traditional Gambian Roundhouses
Drift into a deep sleep each night in our beautifully comfortable beds, and wake to the gentle sounds of birdsong, feeling refreshed and ready to embrace each day.
Each of our nine spacious, detached roundhouses sits around a freshwater eco-pool, near our welcoming bar and restaurant. Designed to stay naturally cool, they feature domed roofs, hot air vents, and 360° window ventilation. Every roundhouse is shaded by fruit trees, offering you fresh juice, natural privacy, and a connection to nature.
Inside, you’ll find an en-suite bathroom with an eco-friendly composting toilet, a king-size or twin beds, and the option of an extra single bed if needed. Rooms are adorned with beautiful local artworks, which you are welcome to purchase. Amenities include mosquito nets on request, fresh towels (daily or less often, as you prefer), and a laundry service.
Ndey’s Chalets – Budget-Friendly Comfort
Located just 50 metres from the main lodge, Ndey’s Chalets offer simple, clean accommodation perfect for backpackers and budget-conscious travellers.
Each of the four chalets has limited electricity — enough for charging phones, laptops, and cameras (but not suitable for hairdryers or kettles). You'll enjoy private bathrooms with hot and cold showers and flushing toilets, plus breakfast at the lodge included with your stay. Guests at Ndey’s Chalets enjoy full access to all lodge facilities.
